History

During the 4th and 5th of June of 1998 the 1st meeting of Andalusian volunteering organizations took place at Málaga. This event brought more than fifty entities from all over Andalusia together and pursued the aim of expounding their needs and requests about volunteering in order to develop a coordinated network in Andalusia that would confront the different problems of the volunteering entities.

The different work groups concluded, among other things, that they would create an independent entity that would facilitate communication among all organizations. This entity would be a federation or platform of entities that would serve as negotiator with the civil service and society. From that moment on the Plataforma Andaluza de Voluntariado was born – with its own legal entity, as well as with non-denominational and apolitical character, and pursuing the aim of consolidating a system of coordinating and promoting volunteering among the different associations and entities, the civil service and the citizens in Andalusia.

After the drafting and approval of the Articles of the PAV on May of 1999, the legal proceedings started in order to get PAV´s incorporation. Meanwhile the organizations reached a consensus on the first actions to undertake.

In the conclusions of that first meeting a few actions were specified to be carried out by the new regional Platform. The main actions were to raise awareness of volunteering, non formal education, coordination, advice and technical support, collaboration and develop of common projects.

Finally, the Plataforma Andaluza de Voluntariado legally became a private non profit, non-denominated and apolitical organization composed of all the subregional volunteering networks in Andalusia. More than one hundred associations and entities from different fields make up these subregional networks.
